Despite its reputation for affluence, Fairfax County, Virginia, faces a hidden crisis of poverty and homelessness. The 2025 Point-in-Time Count revealed that 1,322 individuals experienced homelessness in a single night—a 3% increase from the previous year. Even more troubling is the racial disparity: nearly half of the homeless population identifies as Black, despite making up only 11.1% of the county’s overall residents. Over 60,000 people live below the poverty line, and many working families cannot afford stable housing, with full-time minimum wage earners unable to rent a modest two-bedroom apartment. These statistics expose an urgent and growing emergency that demands both compassion and action.
